3 Reasons to Pressure Wash Your Home

3 Reasons to Pressure Wash Your Home

Pressure washing has been used for years to clean the exterior of houses and other buildings, it is also commonly used on driveways and concrete.  You take water and use a mechanical sprayer to shoot out wash at a much higher pressure than a regular hose.  As a homeowner you are probably wondering if you really need pressure washing and if it is really worth the cost.  Here are 3 reasons to pressure wash your home on a regular basis.

Keep it Looking Good

There is nothing that is more efficient than pressure washing to keep the exterior of your home clean.  Pollutants, dust and car exhaust all gather on the exterior of your home making it look dingy and dirty.  It doesn’t matter what the exterior surface of your home is made from, be it siding or brick pressure washing can bring it back to life.

When water at high pressure hits the surface of your home it will remove the majority of grime from your home, if you have a painted house then it can also remove old paint flakes.  Power washing makes your home look brighter and well maintained and if you are considering selling it will boost your curb appeal.  Here is a look at how pressure washing improved this home.

Maintaining Your Roof

Your roof is often where moisture comes into your home, over time dirt, water and algae can all accumulate on the top of your roof.  That can damage the wood that is part of your roof and cause shingles to lift.  Cleaning it on a regular basis prevents mold from growing on your roof and damage from happening.  Make sure that you remove any accumulated water that can absorb into the roof.

Maintaining Your Home’s Value

If you are remotely interested in selling your home then of course you want top dollar for it, one of the things your realtor will discuss with you is curb appeal.  Curb appeal is making a positive first impression.  Pressure washing helps to not only preserve the value of your home in terms of regular maintenance and a home in excellent condition has a lot more curb appeal.

If you have no intention of selling your home that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t pressure wash, on the contrary, you still want to do it on a regular basis to remove mold, grim and other contaminants that can damage your home.

7 Tips to Keep Pests Out of Your Home

7 Tips to Keep Pests Out of Your Home

Nobody wants unwanted house guests particularly those that come with six or eight legs, it isn’t just insects you don’t want in your home but flies, mosquitoes or rodents either.  They don’t just spoil the mood they can be a danger to your health and damage your property.  Keeping them away is a lot easier than trying to get rid of them once they have made your house their home.  Here are 7 tips to keep pests out of your home.

  1. Stop them from getting in. The best method of prevention is to stop them from ever getting in in the first place.  So you need to do a pest inspection and make sure that all of the holes and gaps are blocked.  If you need repairs then get them done as soon as you can before the entrance is discovered.
  2. Clean the kitchen. Most rodents or insects are looking for a food source so if you leave out food on your counters they will take it as an invitation.  Keep the counters and sinks clean of all food debris, sweep the floors regularly and it will help keep critters away.
  3. Store fruit and vegetables in the fridge. Many homeowners store fruits and vegetable in baskets and then forget they are there.  Fruits and even veggies will continue to ripen attracting ants and fruit flies to your kitchen.  They are attracted to the strong sweet smell coming off your produce and come running.  Some veggies store better in cool dry areas, just make sure they are sealed.
  4. Clean your floors with an anti-allergen. Using the right detergent to clean your floors can help keep crawling insects away.  They don’t like the smell and they will avoid it if they can.
  5. Keep standing water out of the yard. If there is any standing water around your property it is time to get rid of it.  It will attract bugs, in particular mosquitoes and it is where they will lay their eggs.  Check the property on a regular basis and dump any water that is pooling.
  6. Check your outdoor furniture. Check your outdoor yard furniture for things like spider webs, egg sacks or rodent feces.  Spray down your furniture regularly if you can and keep it clean.
  7. Hire a pest control company. If you aren’t sure if you have a pest infestation or you want them to inspect your property to make sure that there are no ways for pests to get into your home.  Remember that pests like termites are hidden from the naked eye but a pest control professional knows how to spot them and eradicate them.
